Background

Dexcom Inc. is an international company that develops, manufactures, and distributes continuous glucose monitoring systems, to aid diabetes management. 

A relationship that started back in 2017, Optimised Spaces have become a Total Facilities Management & Maintenance supplier for Dexcom, providing facility fit-out solutions across Dexcom’s EMEA portfolio, including a CAFM, Comms Room monitoring in their Edinburgh facility, as well as projects in  Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Challenge

Having originally fitted out Dexcom’s Camberley facility back in 2018, Optimised Spaces were called upon yet again to take care of the expansion in 2021. As a result of an ever-expanding workforce and procedures enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dexcom were keen to extend their office space, to be more accommodating for greater numbers of staff, as well as social distancing measures – undertaking an extra 100 square metres in the process.

Optimised Spaces were involved in all stages of the project and were principal designers under the CDM regulations for the project, as well as project managing the operation from start to handover, including the supply of new Covid 19 specification furniture. All of this had to be completed within a budget first set in 2019. 

Solution

A 2-month project, completed in February 2021, expanding Dexcom’s capacity site by over 100 square metres, complete with internal design for improved occupant comfort. As well as HSE liaison to ensure health and safety requirements were met, the project included decoration, furniture, new ceiling with LED flat panel light and electrical installation; carried out by our NICEIC qualified engineers. We also validated the existing HVAC system to ensure we were able to extend to a newly created “Wellness room” for staff well-being requirements, such as expecting and nursing mothers.

The project was completed with 10 IoT sensors and 2 hubs installed, courtesy of our Optimised Air Quality, integrated with HVAC and building control strategies, all of which will be monitored by our Optimised 24/7 Bureau, to maintain a safe environment as the Dexcom team return to their office.
